Right now, in the Gulf Coast, there are thousands of real birds in a real danger of dying because of the BP’s oil spill. Please help them by donating to Audubon Society, who’s working very hard to rescue and save these birds in a dire need.
In the beginning of the 2010 World Cup, while I was on Twitter, I realized the #1 Twitter trend was "CALA BOCA GALVAO", a phrase in Portuguese. Having grown up in Brazil, I thought this was really strange and funny. It literally meant "SHUT UP GALVAO". And Galvao (Bueno) is the most famous sports announcer in Brazil who often gets mocked for his bad comments. Twitter users who didn't speak Portuguese got puzzled and started asking what it meant. As a joke, many Brazilians invented fake translations about it. One of the most popular jokes was "HELP SAVE GALVAO BIRDS, a rare endangered bird in Brazil." And it quickly became a hit.
In the early hours of trending, I bought the domain CALABOCAGALVAO.COM. I had no idea what to do with it. Start a new joke? Sell it? Until I watched a TV segment about Olivia Butler, a 11-year-old girl who's been making drawings of birds and selling them online to raise money to help save the birds affected by the BP's oil spill. My ieda light bulb went off and here's CALA BOCA GALVAO site to help save real birds in danger.
I hope you can help the birds by donating with whatever you can, even if it's a small amount.
Thank you, Ji Lee.
